Steampunk Abyss Weekend Update 1


This has been a pretty big week for Steampunk Abyss. Over the last year and a half that we have been working this is THE most important additions. While making games it can sometimes be discouraging how much of your work sits in branches of your repos and just are not at the point you feel that you can show off the awesome plans you have to the world. This update is huge for us. It finally feels like our dreams and hard work are coming together in a way that we can be proud of. I hope you enjoy the following list of changes!

The Good-

  • Added Shape Bytes. This is the first HUGE step to our full weapon customization system that is the core of Steampunk Abyss. This includes Wave, Elemental Cone, Split, and Triple shot Bytes.
  • Shape bytes dropped by chests and enemy junk.
  • Store console added to main area. Here you can open the store and invest your gears into permanent upgrades between runs.
  • Store implemented with a two upgrades currently available. This will be fleshed out over the next few weeks.
  • New chest added to hub. This is a temporary measure until the pilot system for passive resource gathering can be fully implemented.
  • Doors and Locked Doors. Locked doors will open as you raise your clearance levels.
  • Fixed glitch with game startup creating a "Full screen" that was only a fraction of the desktop size
  • Added Fullscreen to options
  • Fixed Tower traps spawning near player at start.
  • Adjusted level generation to reduce the average room size.
  • Enemies now properly drop Bytes that don't crash the game. Whoops
  • Enemy drops increased
  • Byte drop system changed to allow quicker additions in the future and stay more stable
  • Fixed glitch with Bytes being equipped wrong and thus not properly effecting gameplay
  • Hub size doubled. Duc Pointe is starting to be revealed...
  • Lots of new flashy particles. Some are awesome!
  • Fixed UI disappearing before death.
  • Fixed Health UI's back to display properly on more monitors. 

The Bad -

  • Menu now starts windowed always. This causes small black bars. We plan on refining this in the next few weeks.
  • Exit for some reason appears near the player ~5% more. Not sure why.

The Ugly

  • My programmer art for the symbols for the shape bytes. Pretty ugly.
  • My programmer art for the store console
  • Yet more programmer art for the doors and locks
  • Particles for the elemental cones are unrefined. We will be adding sprite based particles as development continues
  • Windowed mode results in some graphical issues. We warn players when they launch the game with Fullscreen disabled.
